Core Surgery seminars.

  Monthly

One-hour didactic teaching by invited lecturer, on Monday.

A three-hour combined academic pulmonary medicine and thoracic surgery journal club meeting, with presentation by an invited guest speaker, on Wednesday.

Surgical Grand Rounds, on the fourth Wednesday.


  Bimonthly

Thoracic oncology research and clinical trials meeting, under the directorship of
Dr. Donna E. Maziak, is held at two-month intervals and lasts 1.5 hours.


  Quarterly

Research rounds on Monday – 1.5 hours.

Two-hour thoracic surgery audit for morbidity and mortality on Wednesday, presented by residents.

Formal examination in thoracic surgery, on Friday – 1.5 hours.

The Division of Thoracic Surgery invites thoracic surgeons from other academic centres in Canada four times a year for scholarly presentations, teaching residents in small group sessions and actively guiding the residents in the operating room.


  Annual

The Division of Thoracic Surgery has an annual academic retreat day attended by thoracic surgeons, residents and invited speaker.

Residents are funded for and expected to attend either one thoracic surgery review course or one national or international meeting per year.

Residents are expected to complete one clinical research project each year for publication and presentation at the annual Department of Surgery Collins’ Surgical Resident Research Day.
