TECHNICAL COORDINATOR
BEHAVIORAL CORE FACILITY
A full-time technical coordinator position is immediately available for the new behavioral core facility which is embedded in the Animal Care and Veterinary Service Vivarium at Roger Guindon Hall at the University of Ottawa. The Faculty of Medicine behavioral core facility provides the ability to measure rodent (mainly mice) behaviors using a variety of well-validated computerized measures.
The position will involve: observing and handling rodents; planning and administering behavioral assessments; behavioral data collection and analysis. Some experimental work will involve the administration of products to animals, tissue collection and euthanasia. In addition to performing experiments, the individual will be responsible for daily core maintenance, protocol management, ordering and will assist in the training of personnel wishing to use the facility. The candidate requires a strong work ethic and enthusiasm to work independently while being part of a research team.
Essential Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor degree and two years related experience, or relevant experience in lieu of education.
- High proficiency in handling/restraint of rodents
- High proficiency computer skills
- Knowledge of basic science and biological sciences
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and ideally also in French.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with subcutaneous & intraperitoneal injections
- Previous experience or knowledge of rodent behavior
- Previous experience in neuroscience research.
This position is a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension.
