Information for Speakers

Time and Place

Departmental seminars are normally held on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. in the Roger Guindon Hall (The Health Sciences Building). Coffee and refreshments will be served at 11:15 a.m.

Please email your seminar title to Blanche Dinelle (bdinelle@uottawa.ca) as soon as possible so that we can print seminar notices well in advance. Also, please email a curriculum vitae.

Travel

We recommended that you make your own travel arrangements.

A taxi from the airport to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa takes approximately 15-20 minutes (don’t forget to ask for a receipt). The Faculty of Medicine is located at 451 Smyth Road at the Health Sciences Building next to the Ottawa Hospital General Campus. Be sure to indicate this to the taxi driver so that you don’t end up at the downtown campus. The Health Sciences Building main entrance is located around the back of the hospital complex next to The Rehabilitation Center.

If, for some reason, no one is able to greet you at the door upon your arrival, make your way up to the third floor of Guindon Hall. From the main entrance, take the stairs to the right, climb up half a flight and walk to the end of the hall where the main elevators are located. Take the elevator to the third floor, turn left and walk down the hall to the Secretariat (Room 3206).

Accommodations

Hotel bookings will be arranged by Blanche Dinelle. A confirmation of the hotel booking will be sent to speakers. Payment is arranged directly by the Department. In most cases, non-smoking rooms will be reserved, unless otherwise indicated.

Meals

Normally, speakers are invited to lunch ( 12:30 – 1:30 pm, room 3126) with the graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the Department. This provides the students with an informal setting for interaction with the speaker.

Speakers are invited to have dinner with interested faculty members shortly after the seminar.

Special Arrangements

Please notify Blanche Dinelle in advance if you require any specialized audiovisual equipment (digital projection systems, TV, VCR, etc.) or any other pieces of equipment.

Honoraria and Reimbursement of Travel Expenses

For tax purposes, Canadian residents need to provide their social insurance number (SIN) and date of birth in order to receive an honorarium. Please email this information to Blanche Dinelle at least three weeks prior to your visit so that we can process the payment request in time. Faculty members of the University of Ottawa do not receive an honorarium (sorry).

Original receipts and Boarding pass for travel expenses can be sent to:
