My laboratory is interested in understanding the transcriptional networks which direct the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into adipocytes (fat), osteoblasts (bone), and skeletal muscle.
In particular we are studying the role of CCAAT/Enhancer binding protein β (C/EBPβ), a bzip transcription factor during mesenchymal differentiation in an effort to understand age-related loss of lean tissue (bone and muscle) and concomitant increase in adiposity. Furthermore, we hope to explain how obesity impacts bone and muscle maintenance throughout life.
