![]() SCIENTISTS The Centre currently has a high concentration of established Scientists working on projects relevant to several neuromuscular disorders. These are:
The excellence of these Investigators has been previously recognized since within the current membership, there are seven CIHR New Investigators, three CIHR Investigators, one CIHR Senior Investigator and a Gairdner Award winner. Additionally, several members have also been recognized through Howard Hughes International Scholar Awards (2), Fellowships from the Royal Society of Canada (2), Burroughs Wellcome Clinical Scientist Award (1), Canada Research Chair (1) and Order of Canada (1). Current peer-reviewed research funding exceeds $5 million per annum and close to 300 publications have been generated within the last five years. In this context, it is important to note also that a significant proportion of these manuscripts have appeared in high-quality, top-rated journals. All Investigators are actively involved in the training of Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows and currently, there are 50 Graduate Students and 35 Postdoctoral Fellows within the Centre. Together, the Investigators within the Centre have a wide range of complementary approaches for studying basic questions in neuromuscular diseases and conditions. This expertise includes biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, virology, genetics, physiology, neuroscience and transgenic mouse technology. This provides a true opportunity to examine neuromuscular-related issues with a trans-disciplinary approach. |
