![]() OBJECTIVESThis Centre has emerged from synergistic interactions between Scientists from the Faculty of Medicine, the Ottawa Health Research Institute and the Childrens Hospital of Eastern Ontario. The Centre has currently 15 Principal Investigators working with their respective research teams on distinct yet, complementary aspects of neuromuscular diseases and conditions. One of the main objectives of this Centre is to create a dynamic, challenging and supportive environment that will enhance the development of collaborative, competitive and multidisciplinary research programs focusing on several neuromuscular disorders. In addition, the Centre uses a comprehensive approach to the study of neuromuscular disease by integrating the various research components with strong commitments to education and patient care. The creation of this Centre represents a critical consolidation point that will strengthen the research activities of the Members as well as the Academic Mission of the Centre by stimulating the implementation of multidisciplinary research collaborations of the highest quality. In addition, the Centre will serve to attract other established Scientists within the local, provincial and national communities and to direct the recruitment of researchers and support staff. This synergy will allow for the growth of research capabilities beyond anything possible under the current individual circumstances. Finally, the formation of a Centre will significantly enhance opportunities for new institutional- and industrial-based funding |
