DISEASES AND CONDITIONS TARGETED

Given the variety and multi-disciplinary nature of the on-going research
programs within the Centre, a large number of diseases and conditions are
targeted.  Although the emphasis is on skeletal muscle, a significant
proportion of the research effort is also relevant to several heart
conditions and neurological disorders.  More specifically:

1.    Skeletal Muscle:

Muscle atrophy

Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophies

Facio-scapulo-humoral dystrophy

Myasthenic syndromes

Myotonic dystrophy

 

2.  Cardiac Muscle:

Cardiac hypertrophy

Dilated cardiomyopathy

Myocardial infarct

Bi-Cuspid Aortic Valve

 

3.     Neurological Disorders:

Neural regeneration

Spinal muscular atrophy

Retinitis pigmentosa

Parkinson’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease

Febrile convulsions

Episodic vestibular cerebellar ataxia.

Episodic ataxia-2

Familial hemiplegic migraine

Syndromal X-linked mental retardation
