OAHSLP Background

This program was developed out of the need for systematic leadership development for faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals.  Our Faculty and affiliated teaching hospitals have, over the last few years, experienced great changes; examples include the creation of the LIHN, the increasing student enrolment in medical schools and the development of alternate funding plans.  These changes have further highlighted the already present need to develop leadership from within the Faculty.  This program has been designed to encourage situational leadership at many levels, possibly but not necessarily linked to present or future positions of authority in the Faculty or hospitals.  The program should be viewed in light of the commitment to supporting leadership development over time, with the 5-day training component being only one aspect of the program.

This leadership program had been developed in collaboration with The Ottawa Hospital, Sisters of Charity of Ottawa Health Services, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Royal Ottawa Hospital, and the Faculties of Medicine, Health Sciences, Law and School of Management, University of Ottawa.  Previous participants in the program include academic and community based physicians, basic scientists, faculty and hospital staff.
